Chair of Governors
Jonathan Smith is a results-oriented leader with 20 years of strategic business development experience, specialising in complex, high-worth projects. He brings advanced negotiation, sales, and leadership skills to our school.
Jonathan has held Director-level roles and has also served in senior leadership positions in education and skills, making him a asset to our primary school community.
Above all, Jonathan's passion is to ensure that every child has access to a top-quality, inclusive education. His dedication to this mission drives our commitment to excellence and inclusivity, ensuring that every child can thrive.
Vice-Chair of Governors
Tom Richford has worked in education for over 14 years and has held various roles from teacher, head of department, pastoral lead and is now Assistant Headteacher.
Tom is passionate about education and making a difference to all students, especially across Thanet; Tom hopes to be able to support with this further in his capacity as a governor at NCPS.
Co-opted Governors
Harvie Palmer is thrilled to have recently joined the governing board of Newington. His background is in IT, currently working as a Trust IT Manager for a Doncaster Multi Academy Trust. He has a good knowledge of school governance and was previously the Chair of Governors for another primary school in Thanet, seeing the school through some significant changes. He is currently a Co-chair of a governing board at a school in North Yorkshire. His skillset in ICT means he can monitor and ensure the children of Newington are receiving a first-class ICT experience, preparing them for the digital world. He is very much looking forward to getting the chance to meet you.

Staff Governors
Mrs Hannah Holden joined the NCPS Board of Governors in January 2022 as the staff governor. Hannah has worked in the school for over six years and has enjoyed teaching across the school from Year Two to Year Six, giving her a good overview of the school and its curriculum. She has a particular interest in the teaching of PSHE and English. Hannah lives locally with her family. Mrs Holden is currently on maternity leave.
Mrs Hayley Mulhern joined the NCPS Board of Governors in 2010 as a staff governor. Hayley has worked at Newington since 2003 and has worked across a number of different year groups, but mainly in year three, where at present Hayley is the Head Of Year. This is a demanding but very rewarding role, overseeing the development of a new team working together, to ensure every child has a excellent education. Hayley lives locally with her husband and loves spending time with her three lovely grandchildren and taking long walks to Broadstairs.
