Our School Day

Our school day begins at 8:50am and ends at 3:20pm, which amounts to 32.5 hours per week, for pupils from Reception up to Year 6. 

Our gates open at 8:30am, and 3:15pm.

Timetables vary for each year group, however a typical day from Year 1-6 may look like:

8:30-8:55: Pupils begin the day with some early morning work. This is an opportunity to practice key skills, such as handwriting, reading and times tables. This is often a time during which teachers will listen to pupils read and ensure that they have a settled start to the day. 

8:55-9:10: Assembly

  • Monday: Assembly conducted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, subject leader or class teacher.
  • Tuesday: ‘Voices’ Assembly- Big questions/topics for debate and discussion conducted by classroom staff.
  • Wednesday: Singing assembly. Children engage in music promoting core values, key events, hymns.
  • Thursday: ‘Personal Development’ Assembly. Children explore the following themes: Equality/Diversity/ Citizenship/Health/Aspiration/Careers/Relationships/online safety. Conducted by classroom staff.
  • Friday: ‘Newington Winners’ celebration Assembly, children celebrate theirs and their peers’ successes. Conducted by a member of SLT. 

9:10-10:30: Core subject teaching- English or Maths

10:30-10:45: Breaktime

10:45 - 12:15pm: Core subject teaching- English or Maths

12 noon - 1pm: KS1 Lunch

12:15pm-1:10pm: KS2 Lunch

Lunchtimes are staggered in order for every child to be served at our Newington Restaurant!

Afternoons are devoted to the teaching of Science, Geography, History, PE, RE, PSHE, Computing, Spanish, Art and DT. Please see our curriculum page for more information.
